An evening at Grimsthorpe Castle with Sir Roy Strong
A treat lies in store for garden lovers on 21st May. Sir Roy Strong, the art historian, writer and broadcaster, will be at Grimsthorpe Castle to talk about the creation of the Laskett Gardens, the largest private formal gardens* to be created in England since 1945. Over almost four decades Sir Roy Strong, and his late wife, the designer Dr Julia Trevelyan Oman, transformed a four acre field into a series of stunning garden rooms, vistas, ascents and descents.
The Grimsthorpe gardens will be open from 5pm, drinks and canapés will be served from 6pm and the lecture follows at 7pm in the Vanbrugh Hall.
The event is organised by the St John Ambulance County Priory Group in Lincolnshire by kind permission of Baroness Willoughby de Eresby. Tickets cost £20 and are available from John O Young, 10 Longdales Road, Lincoln LN2 2JU.
*Excuse me (interjects Simon), but that’s tiny compared with East Ruston Old Vicarage’s 32 acres, even if that’s not all intensively gardened and some of it’s car parking!!!
