British Cactus & Succulent Society Show

Microsoft Word - BCSS Poster Spalding Mart 2015 A4 03-11-14.docxSLGS committee member Gerald Blacoe and his wife Janet, leading lights of the local cactus and succulent scene (as well as Bourne U3A Garden Group), have asked me to let you know about the forthcoming show of the Spalding branch of the British Cactus & Succulent Society. It is going to be held (slightly confusingly, as they admit!) in Holbeach on 25 April, from 10am–3pm at Holbeach Community Centre, Fishpond Lane PE12 7DE. Not only will there be many perfect specimens of these fascinating plants on show, but 15 leading nurseries and growers will be exhibiting and selling plants – for the specialist and novice alike – and available to give advice on their cultivation. Download poster. More information: www.spalding.bcss.org.uk

To whet your appetite, here are some photos that I took of a Silver-Gilt medal-winning exhibit at a recent RHS Show (shown by Ottershaw Cacti, of Chertsey; I’m afraid I don’t know whether they are among the exhibitors at Spalding, but I’m sure there will be some plants of equally fine quality) – a general one of part of the stand and a couple of details of some that particularly caught my eye. (Photos © SG)
